Mahindra Last Mile Mobility has unveiled the Mahindra UDO, an all-new electric auto that aims to change how drivers and passengers experience last-mile transport. With an aircraft-inspired design, a claimed real-world range of 200 km and several first-in-segment features, the company is positioning the UDO as more than just another e-rickshaw.

Priced at an introductory Rs 3,58,999 (ex-showroom) for a limited period, Mahindra said the UDO is designed to offer better comfort, performance and safety, areas where traditional autos have long lagged behind.

Mahindra UDO brings aircraft-inspired design to everyday autos

Unlike conventional autos that have barely changed in decades, the Mahindra UDO comes with a fresh, modern look.

Inspired by the shape of an aeroplane, or what the company calls an “autoplane”, the vehicle features a sleek, aerodynamic body, bold headlamps, stylish mirrors and a wide windshield.

Built on a full monocoque construction, a first in the segment, the Mahindra UDO promises better structural strength and stability compared to traditional frame-based autos.

The Hindi word ‘UDO’ means ‘to fly’, and the design clearly leans into that idea.

Mahindra says UDO focuses on comfort with pilot-style seating

Comfort has rarely been a priority in three-wheelers, but the Mahindra UDO tries to fix that.

As per the company’s release, the driver gets what it calls a ‘pilot seat’, which is nearly 20 per cent thicker than standard auto seats. This design is expected to reduce fatigue during long hours on the road.

Passengers also benefit from:
  • extra legroom
  • more headroom
  • wider seating
The cabin feels closer to a small lounge than a cramped auto.

An independent rear suspension and dual fork front suspension further improve ride quality, especially on rough city roads and pothole-filled stretches.

Mahindra UDO offers 200 km real-world range and strong performance

Range anxiety is often the biggest concern for commercial EV drivers. The Mahindra UDO addresses this with a claimed 200 km real-world driving range, and an ARAI-certified range of 265 km.

It runs on an 11.7 kWh IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack and a PMS motor delivering:
  • 10 kW peak power
  • 52 Nm torque

Drivers can choose between three drive modes, Range, Ride and Race, depending on traffic and load.

Race mode allows a top speed of 55 km/h, which could help drivers complete more trips in a day and improve earnings.

Mahindra UDO adds smart features for easier city driving

The Mahindra UDO also introduces several industry-first features aimed at making driving simpler and safer.

These include:
  • reverse throttle
  • creep mode
  • hill hold assist
  • regenerative braking

Reverse throttle helps control speed without constantly pressing the brakes, while creep mode is useful in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Hill hold assist prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards on slopes.

Together, these features are meant to reduce driver stress during daily city use.

Mahindra UDO strengthens safety with durable build and better brakes

Safety has been another focus area for the Mahindra UDO.

The vehicle comes with:
  • powerful drum brakes for shorter stopping distance
  • 30.48 cm tubeless tyres
  • IP67-rated battery and drivetrain protection

This ensures the auto can handle rain, dust and harsh weather conditions more reliably.

Mahindra is also offering a warranty of 6 years or 1.5 lakh km, whichever comes first, along with free services up to 1 lakh km.

Owners are automatically enrolled in the UDAY NXT scheme, which includes accidental insurance cover of up to Rs 20 lakh and additional support benefits.

Mahindra UDO aims to redefine last-mile mobility in India

India is already the world’s largest electric three-wheeler market, and the Mahindra UDO appears to target drivers who want more than just basic transport.

Instead of focusing only on cost, the vehicle pushes for better design, dignity, comfort and efficiency.

Built at Mahindra’s Zaheerabad plant with automated battery assembly and robotic production lines, the UDO represents the company’s latest push to accelerate electrification in last-mile transport.

If it delivers on its promises, the Mahindra UDO could set a new benchmark for how city autos look, feel and perform.
