Ahmedabad woman files complaint against doctor husband for forcing her to wear a nightgown

A 21-year-old woman from Juhapura, Ahmedabad has lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws, alleging harassment and abuse. According to her complaint, she was forced to wear a nightgown at all times while at home. The woman, who married in May 2023 in Saudi Arabia, stated that her in-laws controlled her clothing choices and mistreated her when she resisted, a TOI report stated.

Allegations of Abuse and Control

The woman moved to Bapunagar after marriage, where her in-laws lived. She alleged that her husband, a doctor, developed a drinking habit and became verbally abusive. When she reported his behavior to her in-laws, they allegedly supported him and began mistreating her. She claimed that her husband controlled her daily routine, dictating when she could sleep and wake up. She also stated that she had to massage his legs before being allowed to sleep.

Complaint Details

"My husband would insist that I wear a nightgown all the time and whenever I resisted, he and my in-laws would abuse me," her complaint stated. She further alleged that her brother-in-law and his wife harassed her by constantly criticising her and instigating her husband against her.

Incident Escalation and Legal Action

The situation worsened after a family trip to Kashmir in May last year. Following the trip, she returned to her parents’ home. Despite mediation attempts, her husband allegedly did not try to reconcile. This led her to file a complaint with the Vejalpur police.

Authorities are investigating the allegations. No further statements have been issued by the accused parties at this time.
