Ahmedabad Weather Today
Ahmedabad woke up under grey skies again on Tuesday, and the India Meteorological Department says the city, along with a large chunk of Gujarat, is in for another round of thundershowers. The Met Centre Ahmedabad recorded a temperature of 25°C at 7:30 am with humidity sitting at a sticky 89 percent, and a gentle southerly breeze moving at around 7.4 km/h.

Ahmedabad Weather Today

According to the state forecast bulletin issued by the Met Centre Ahmedabad on August 10, the city falls under a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers that is expected to continue through the day and into tomorrow morning. The bulletin specifically flags Ahmedabad and Anand for rain activity at "many places".

There's a sharper warning attached too. The Met department has cautioned that isolated pockets around Ahmedabad could see thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds touching 30-40 kmph, layered on top of the light-to-moderate rain.

IMD Rain Alert For Other Gujarat Cities

The heavy rain alert has been listed for districts away from Ahmedabad. IMD's warning list names Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar and Chhota Udepur as places where isolated very heavy to heavy rainfall is likely today, with Banaskantha, Vav-Tharad and Sabarkantha also on the radar for heavy spells.

South Gujarat is also on alert. Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad, along with Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, are expected to see rain at many places through the day.

Saurashtra gets a lighter touch, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar and Botad are likely to see more consistent showers, while Rajkot, Amreli, Morbi, Gir Somnath and Kutch should expect only scattered activity. Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh and Dwarka are the driest corner of the state today, with just isolated showers on the cards.

Here's how the rest of Gujarat's cities are faring this morning, going by IMD's live readings:

  • Vadodara — 27.2°C, 90% humidity

  • Surat — 28°C, 84% humidity

  • Rajkot — 26.2°C, 89% humidity

  • Bhuj — 28°C, 79% humidity

  • Dwarka — 29°C, 79% humidity

  • Veraval — 29.2°C, 81% humidity

  • Deesa — 27.4°C, 95% humidity

Why It's Raining Right Now

A low-pressure area that had formed over northeast Madhya Pradesh has now drifted to sit over north MP and its neighbourhood, with the associated cyclonic circulation stretching nearly 6 km up into the atmosphere. The monsoon trough, essentially the backbone of the season's rain, currently runs from Bikaner through this low-pressure system and onward toward the Bay of Bengal. Add a western disturbance parked to the north and a shear zone cutting across peninsular India,.

IMD expects a fresh low-pressure area to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around August 12, which could well extend this wet phase into the middle of the month rather than letting it fade out.

Ahmedabad Weather Forecast for Next 7 Days

Going by the seven-day outlook, Ahmedabad and its neighbouring districts should stay in this same light-to-moderate rain pattern through August 12, with the intensity gradually easing after that. By August 13 and 14, the rain activity is expected to pull back toward the northeastern belt, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, while the rest of the state settles into more isolated, hit-or-miss showers. No major shift is expected for days eight and nine of the outlook, running up to August 19.

Just ten days ago, on August 1, the IMD had placed Ahmedabad among 15 districts under a red alert as Surat's Ambika taluka recorded a staggering 24 inches of rain in a single day. So while today's warning for the city is comparatively mild, the state's monsoon engine is clearly still running strong, and conditions can shift quickly.
