Navrangpura police have registered a medico-legal case and launched an investigation.
Pragnesh Shastri, the managing trustee of the school, shared that the girl had been studying at the school for the past five years. “At the time of the incident, the students were out of their classrooms for recess. According to witnesses, three to four children spotted the girl walking towards the parapet and tried to stop her. One of them reportedly held her hand, but she broke free and leapt before the teachers or staff members could be alerted.”
The fall caused critical injuries, including a severe concussion, head trauma, and multiple fractures.
Initially, she was taken to a nearby hospital by EMRI 108 emergency services. Later, her parents shifted her to a hospital in the Thaltej area, where she remains unconscious and under critical care in the ICU. “She has suffered head injuries and has severe concussion due to the fall. She has also sustained injuries on her hands and legs due to the impact,” medical officials reported.
Inspector A A Desai of Navrangpura police station stated that the girl was in an unconscious and critical condition when police visited the hospital. “We are yet to ascertain reason for the possible suicide attempt by the girl. We are gathering more details about the incident,” he said.
Safin Hasan, in charge DCP (Zone I), added, “We do not suspect foul play at the moment yet are investigating all angles. It is too early to comment why she took this step. We will speak to her parents and teachers to understand her background.”
Investigators are also attempting to access CCTV footage from the school building to better understand the events leading up to the incident. “Attempts are on to retrieve CCTV footage of the premises that may throw light on the circumstances of the incident,” said an investigator.
“Our priority is to ensure the girl’s recovery. While the students, teachers, and others associated with the incident will be questioned to gather more details. The girl will be questioned only after her condition stabilises,” the investigator added.
