The incident reportedly took place on August 9, when the girl was returning home from school with her mother and 5-year old brother. They were walking in a narrow street, MMDA Colony, and as they approached the cow and its calf walking behind it, the cow suddenly turned and attacked the girl.
The cow hurled at her and kept on attacking the girl, much to the horror of her mother and brother.
The cow briefly leaves the girl after being attacked by a few people who come to her rescue after hearing her screams.
Some manage to pull the girl a few metres, but the cow then again charges at her and repeatedly attacks her before being beaten by a man, after which it finally relents and leaves the poor girl alone.
Others underlined that this shows the dangers of stray cattle, especially for kids.
The girl was later taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Following a complaint from the child's mother and after an enquiry, the owner of the cow, a 26-year old man has been arrested. A fine of Rs 25,000 has also been levied on the cattle owner.
Meanwhile, authorities have taken that cow and its calf to a cattle shed at Perambur here for observation.
Last month, a video of a bull attacking a mother a son in a scooter went viral.
