Amid escalating tensions in the ongoing Iran–Israel war and wider Middle East conflict, Iran raised a red flag over a prominent mosques following reports of the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The symbolic act has intensified geopolitical anxieties across the region, amid widespread mourning and protests among Shia communities worldwide.

Iran–Israel War Update: Red “Flag of Revenge” Raised at Jamkaran Mosque

In a symbolic gesture linked to the Iran–Israel conflict, a red “flag of revenge” was hoisted over the dome of the Jamkaran Mosque in Qom. In Shia tradition, the red flag signifies a call for justice and retribution, often raised in times of martyrdom or grave injustice.



Chants condemning the United States and Israel were reported at the Hazrat Masoumeh Shrine.

Iran–Israel Conflict: Mass Mourning in Tehran and Other Iranian Cities

According to Iranian state media outlet Press TV, millions gathered in Tehran and other cities to mourn Khamenei. Large crowds reportedly filled the streets of Isfahan and Zanjan.

The mourning events unfolded against the backdrop of broader Iran–Israel tensions, with many participants framing the development as part of a larger geopolitical confrontation.

Iran–Israel War Fallout: Protests Spread to Iraq and South Asia

Outside Iran, solidarity gatherings were reported in Baghdad, where mourners assembled in large numbers.

In India, people gathered outside the Iran Cultural House in Delhi to express condolences. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, members of the Shia community staged protests outside the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) headquarters in Srinagar.

Protests were also reported in Bandipore, Ramban and Budgam. Demonstrators carried portraits of Khamenei, waved black flags and recited traditional mourning chants known as Nauha.

Iran–Israel Crisis Escalation: Violence Reported in Pakistan

In Pakistan, protests linked to the Iran–Israel crisis reportedly turned violent in some areas. Large gatherings were reported in Skardu, while in Karachi, demonstrators reportedly clashed with security forces outside the US consulate. Media reports indicated casualties following confrontations between protesters and authorities.
