After enjoying a streak of success in cinema halls, the Adivi Sesh, starrer 'Major' has been released on Netflix. On July, 3rd, Netflix confirmed the release of 'Major' on the platform via a Tweet, “The untold story of a son. The untold story of a father. The never before told story of a SOLDIER. 'Major' will feature on Netflix from 3rd July in Malayalam, Telugu and even in Hindi! #MajorOnNetflix”

The movie was released in cinemas on June 3rd, 2022 and was received with mixed reviews. While speaking to Indian Express, the lead actor of ‘Major’, Adivi Sesh said that his film is an ‘all India film’, and not a ‘pan-India film’. He believes that the word pan-India got somewhat abused and confused with ‘all Indian film. He agreed that it sounded good in the beginning because it felt like the film was catering to Indians across the country. However, it started sounding a bit like a euphemism for a dubbed film.

At the same time, he said that he loves pan-India films like Uri: The Surgical Strike. He also mentioned the life journey of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan before he was martyred, which says a lot about the ‘all India’ appeal of the movie. Born in Kerala and brought up in Bangalore, Major served as a captain in the Hyderabad cantonment and a training officer in Haryana. Before saving hundreds in Mumbai, he also fought in Kargil.

In his review, Manoj Kumar from Indian Express said that ‘Major’ follows a path of familiar romanticism, rather than wholly depicting the bravery of the soldier. While he agreed that Adivi Sesh gets most of the movie right, he affirms that Major is not an authentic war movie and is very far from realism. He added that Adivi, who has also written the movie, has added a liberal dose of familiar romanticism that’s a clichéd trait in movies made in India. He concluded by saying that director Sashi Kiran Tikka and editors duo of Kodati Pavan Kalyan and Vinay Kumar Sirigineedi, have woven familiar themes into a non-linear narrative.

Starring in lead Adivi Sesh, ‘Major’ depicts the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who lost his life during the horrific Mumbai terror attack in 2008. The film is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka and produced by Mahesh Babu-led GMB Entertainment Pvt Limited, A+S Movies and Sony Pictures International Productions. The movie also stars Prakash Raj, Saiee M Manjrekar, and Revathi along with Murali Sharma, Anish Yohan Kuruvilla and Sobhita Dhulipala in pivotal roles.
