What Did Abhishek Sharma Eat?
The trouble began on 6 February, after a net session at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. According to The Times of India, Sharma consumed something that triggered a severe stomach upset. Despite the discomfort, he chose to play in India’s first T20 World Cup match against the USA, showing immense grit.However, his performance was affected, lasting only one ball at the crease. He was noticeably absent from the dugout and even missed post-match handshakes after India’s 29-run victory.
Severe Dehydration and Hospitalisation
The stomach infection worsened due to a change in weather, leading to high fever and severe dehydration. Sharma lost a significant amount of weight in a short period, prompting his admission to Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi for medical supervision.The Indian team management has emphasised that his health comes first, and he did not participate in the training session on Wednesday.
Resting Abhishek Sharma Against Namibia
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate addressed the media regarding Sharma’s condition:"Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy. We are hopeful that he will be available for the game in two days’ time. We're waiting on Abhi's fitness more than anything, and that will again open up a few different combinations," Ryan ten Doeschate.
Despite some optimism, the decision has been made to rest Sharma against Namibia. He has called in his personal trainer to Delhi to oversee rehabilitation and strength training ahead of India’s departure for Sri Lanka.
Sharma’s aggressive presence at the top of the order is seen as crucial for India’s T20 World Cup strategy, making his recovery a top priority for the team.
