'A horrible experience at Theobroma...' shocking sighting at Mumbai branch sparks social media storm

A routine visit to Theobroma’s Runwal Greens outlet in Mumbai’s Mulund West turned disturbing for a customer who spotted a cockroach crawling over trays of paneer rolls.

The incident, caught on video and posted to Reddit, quickly went viral, sparking a wave of hygiene-related complaints from others.

“This is what we saw in Theobroma: Runwal Greens,” the user wrote, sharing the footage. They added, “We were about to place our order when we saw this. We informed the staff, who removed the tray, but we don’t know what happened after that. Be careful, guys.”


The post triggered a flood of comments, with one user joking, “That’s the food inspector doing quality checks,” while another added, “The cockroach might be a metaphor for corruption in food safety.”

Many shared similar experiences, ranging from red ants at fine dining venues to plastic and metal fragments found in food. One user recalled receiving a brownie from a Theobroma outlet in South Delhi that contained a piece of plastic.


“The staff tossed it in the bin and still billed me,” they said. Another claimed to have found metal wires in a brownie: “It could’ve been fatal.”

The episode has raised broader concerns about food safety and accountability among major chains and their franchisees. “Brands just franchise and look the other way,” one user remarked. “Why is there no sense of responsibility?”


As of now, Theobroma has not issued a public response regarding the incident or the mounting hygiene concerns.
