A 2,700ft tribute: Burj Khalifa lit up with image of Queen Elizabeth II

In a 2,700 feet tribute, Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building was lit up with an image of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the British flag.

The official site of the iconic Dubai skyscraper shared a video on its Twitter handle which showed the tribute to the late British monarch on Sunday with a special light show.

The Khaleej Times reported that the tribute at the Burj Khalifa was a day after landmarks in Abu Dhabi lit up in purple in respect of the Queen.

The queen died on Thursday after a record-breaking seven decades on the throne, her son Charles immediately taking over as king of the UK and 14 other realms.

Charles, who took the regal title Charles III, was formally proclaimed the monarch at a pomp-filled ceremony on Saturday in London.

The queen's coffin will on Monday be taken on an emotion-charged procession through the historic heart of the Scottish capital of Edinburgh to a cathedral where it will lie for 24 hours to allow the public to pay their last respects.

On Tuesday, it will be flown to London where the coffin will lie in state at the Houses of Parliament Palace from Wednesday afternoon until the morning of the funeral on Sept. 19.

Authorities already have issued rules and guidelines for people wanting to pay their respects in London, with a long queue expected.
