Do you feel tired all the time, even after a good night's sleep? Do people around you think you're just being lazy? Well, it might be time to look deeper. According to a report by TOI, a cancer expert has shared some common signs that are often mistaken for regular health problems but could actually point to something more serious.

Dr Tim Tiutan, an oncology hospitalist who works with cancer patients, listed five such warning signs in a video shared on Instagram.

1. Unexplained weight loss
Losing weight without trying might sound good at first, but it can also be a red flag. If you haven't changed your diet or exercise routine but are still losing weight, it could be a sign of cancer. Dr Tim warns that such weight loss should not be ignored.

2. Constant tiredness
We all feel tired sometimes. But if you're exhausted even after sleeping well, it might be more than just work stress or a busy schedule. Dr Tim says that feeling tired all the time is a common symptom in many cancer patients.

3. Night sweats or low-grade fever
Night sweats are usually linked to infections, but if they happen often and without clear reason, it could also point to certain cancers like lymphoma. Keep an eye out for unexplained fevers that don’t go away.

4. Lumps in the neck, chest or underarms
Feeling lumps in parts of your body, such as your neck or armpits, can be worrying. Dr Tim says that lumps could be swollen lymph nodes or even tumours. It’s best to get any lump checked by a doctor as soon as possible.

5. Rectal bleeding
Bleeding while using the toilet is often brushed off as piles. But if it continues or gets worse, it could be something more serious like colorectal cancer. Don’t assume it’s just due to your diet or a bad stomach day.

Dr Tim also reminded viewers that many of these symptoms can be caused by other conditions, but that’s exactly why you should always follow up with a doctor. It’s better to be sure than sorry.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), early detection of cancer improves the chances of successful treatment. The WHO says that spotting symptoms early—known as early diagnosis—and screening healthy people can save lives. Delay in cancer care reduces survival chances and increases costs and complications.

So if you notice any of these symptoms, don’t ignore them. Speak to your doctor and get tested if needed. Catching cancer early can make a huge difference.
