A 37-year-old assistant engineer working at the Panki power plant in Kanpur died after undergoing a hair transplant surgery at a private clinic in March. The incident came to light after his wife lodged a complaint, prompting the Rawatpur police to register a case of medical negligence against the doctor involved.

Complaint filed after patient's death

Vineet Kumar Dubey, a resident of Gorakhpur, lived in the officers' colony of the power plant with his wife and two children. On March 11, his wife Jaya Tripathi left for Gonda with their children to visit her family. Two days later, Vineet went to a clinic in Kalyanpur run by a city-based MBBS doctor for a hair transplant procedure.

According to Jaya Tripathi, she received a phone call from an unknown number on the morning of March 14. The caller told her that Vineet had developed swelling on his face and was being taken to a hospital. The call ended suddenly and repeated attempts to reach the number failed as the phone was switched off. She also tried to call the doctor but found that phone switched off as well.

She then requested her uncle in Kanpur to visit the hospital. As Vineet’s health worsened, he was shifted to Regency Hospital, where he died on March 15.

Doctor charged with negligence

Following the death, Jaya Tripathi filed a complaint with the authorities. The Rawatpur police station registered an FIR under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to death caused due to negligence.

Kalyanpur ACP Abhishek Kumar Pandey said police recorded statements of those who had introduced the engineer to the doctor. “Our investigations will determine further action,” Pandey said. He also confirmed that the doctor has been summoned but has not yet appeared before the police.

Police said the case remains under investigation. Authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the procedure and the delay in seeking proper medical help. No arrests have been made so far.
