Amid ongoing debates over stray animals, a disturbing video of a dog attack has gone viral on social media platform X. The footage shows a single dog attacking multiple people in quick succession.

In the CCTV clip, three individuals are seen sitting and relaxing, unaware of the approaching dog. Within seconds, the animal suddenly attacks one person from behind, knocking him off his chair. It then immediately charges at another man sitting on a nearby cot, biting his leg. After being kicked away, the dog briefly retreats—only to lunge at a third passerby moments later.

As the chaos unfolds, the first victim tries to defend himself by striking the dog with a chair. However, the animal turns aggressive again and attacks him once more. Soon after, two more people rush in and manage to chase the dog away.

The entire incident, captured on CCTV, is reportedly dated April 3, 2026.

Reacting to the video, a user claimed the dog’s behaviour resembled that seen in rabies cases, urging anyone bitten or scratched to seek immediate medical attention.

All about rabies

Rabies is a life-threatening viral infection that can develop rapidly after exposure. Experts warn that symptoms may appear within days or weeks. Animal bites are the most common mode of transmission, but the virus can also spread through saliva entering open wounds.

Immediate wound cleaning and prompt medical care are critical. Pets should be vaccinated regularly, and people are advised to avoid close contact with stray or wild animals. While preventive vaccination is recommended for high-risk individuals, human-to-human transmission remains extremely rare.

With several preventable deaths reported across India in recent years, experts stress the need for awareness, timely vaccination, and better management of stray animal populations.

What to do immediately after a dog bite

  • Wash the wound thoroughly under running water with soap for at least 15 minutes
  • Apply antiseptics such as povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine
  • Avoid tight stitching unless absolutely necessary
Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) should begin immediately. The standard vaccination schedule includes doses on days 0, 3, 7, and 14 (and sometimes day 28).

For severe (Category III) exposures, rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) must be administered into and around the wound for immediate protection.

Tetanus protection is also important. A booster shot should be given if vaccination is not up to date.

Doctors may prescribe antibiotics, such as amoxicillin-clavulanate, to prevent secondary infections. According to doctors, you should not ignore even minor bites or scratches. Also do not rely on home remedies and do not delay vaccination while waiting for confirmation.
