Gen Z founder pays employees 2X for working on off days, lets team roast him

A 25-year-old Chandigarh-based entrepreneur has drawn attention online after sharing an unusual set of workplace practices that he says shape how he manages his employees and business.

Pratham Jindal, a Gen Z founder, said his approach includes paying employees double when they give up a day off to work, encouraging his team to make fun of him, sharing company numbers openly and spending money on month-end celebrations.

Jindal said the practices were part of his effort to create a workplace culture different from the image of offices often associated with toxic work environments, rigid bosses and unhealthy competition.

Founder says employees can ‘roast’ him

Sharing his approach in an Instagram post, Jindal said he deliberately keeps a relaxed relationship with his employees and allows them to openly joke about him.

“I let my team roast me. I spend money on month-end parties. I talk openly about our numbers. I'm more involved in content than day-to-day operations,” Jindal wrote.

Rather than positioning himself as a traditional boss focused on hierarchy, he said he wanted transparency and informal interactions to be part of his organisation’s culture.

Jindal also said that he chooses to devote more of his time to content than routine operational work at the company.

Employees who work on days off get double pay

One of the founder’s more unusual policies concerns employees who work during their scheduled leave.

Jindal said that when a team member gives up a day off to work, they should receive twice their usual pay for that day.

“And if someone gives up their day off to work, I believe they should be paid 2X for it,” he said.

He acknowledged that the approach could appear unusual to other business owners, joking that these “rules” might send some founders “into a coma”. Despite that, he said he had chosen to implement the practices at his organisation.

Open discussions on numbers and month-end parties

Jindal said he also believes in discussing the company’s numbers openly with employees.

Alongside financial transparency, he said he spends money on month-end parties for the team. He described content creation as another area where he remains closely involved, while leaving more of the day-to-day operational responsibilities to others.

“I spend money on month-end parties. I talk openly about our numbers. I'm more involved in content than day-to-day operations,” he said.

Founder says he would drop a client before an employee

Jindal also outlined how he approaches difficult clients, saying he prioritises his employees over business relationships that create problems for the team.

“I always choose to let go of a client than an employee. I don't let my team tolerate a bad client,” he said.

According to Jindal, the policy reflects his broader view that employees should not have to put up with difficult clients simply because they bring revenue to the company.

Jindal says practices came from building his company

Jindal clarified that he does not consider the approach a formal handbook for running a business.

“None of these are ‘rules’ for running a business. They're just things I've come to believe after spending the last few years building Praper,” he added.

His comments have since attracted attention online, particularly for combining employee-focused policies, an informal workplace culture and a willingness to walk away from clients he considers unsuitable for his team.
