28-day-old baby investor becomes Nithin Kamath's Zerodha's youngest customer, parents opened a minor account within a month since birth.

Nithin Kamath has a new record to share, and this one belongs to a baby barely a month old. Zerodha co-founder said the platform's youngest customer is now just 28 days old, with the infant's parents opening a minor account and making their first investment within a week of signing up.

Kamath shared the update on X. The post comes almost exactly a year after he had shared a similar milestone, when Zerodha's youngest account holder was a 64 day old baby. The age has nearly halved since then, a sign that more parents are choosing to start investing for their children soon after birth rather than waiting years.

What Did Nithin Kamath Say About Zerodha Youngest Customer

Kamath posted that the platform's newest and youngest customer is just 28 days old. He added that the baby's parents opened the minor account and went on to make their first investment a week later, calling it a quick turnaround for a family just getting started.

How Does A Zerodha Minor Account Work
A minor account on Zerodha lets a parent or legal guardian invest on behalf of a child in stocks, mutual funds, and bonds. The account can be opened through the Kite app, and Zerodha does not charge an account opening fee or an annual maintenance charge for it. Once the child turns 18, the account is converted into a regular individual account at no extra cost.

Why Are Parents Investing For Newborns Earlier

A year ago, when Kamath pointed to a 64 day old baby as the youngest account holder, he had shared a video of parents explaining why they chose to invest for their children so early. One parent in that video had said the Indian education system does not teach children about money, while another spoke about the importance of investing even while spending what one earns. The latest update suggests that sentiment has only grown stronger, with the youngest customer age dropping from 64 days to 28 days within a year.
