Vaishnav Anand was just 16 when he founded and began building DeepTrust in August 2024, turning a personal encounter with a deepfake into a project focused on helping people identify manipulated media. At the time, Anand was a high school student at The Athenian School in Danville, California. He is now pursuing research and product development around deepfake detection, AI security and trustworthy computer vision.

DeepTrust has since developed into a multimodal deepfake detection platform designed to analyse synthetic video, audio, images and satellite media. Anand says the system is designed for real-world conditions, including compression, distribution shifts and AI-generated content from systems that may not have appeared in its training data.

How Vaishnav Anand started DeepTrust at 16

Anand's decision to work on deepfake detection followed a personal deepfake incident that showed him how quickly manipulated media could affect trust and identity. That experience became the starting point for DeepTrust, which he founded in August 2024 while he was still in high school.


Rather than focusing only on laboratory benchmarks, Anand's work has concentrated on what happens when detection models encounter difficult real-world material. His research examines issues such as video compression, domain shift and synthetic content generated by systems that were not represented in the original training data.

From a teenage project to deepfake research

As the project developed, Anand worked on a quad-stream approach to deepfake detection that examines visual information through spatial and frequency-domain analysis. His research portfolio identifies this architecture as one of the methods behind DeepTrust and says the approach is patent-pending.

His research expanded beyond conventional deepfakes as well. Anand has worked on detecting synthetically generated satellite imagery, studying how manipulated geospatial information could create problems when people rely on satellite images as evidence. His research has been presented through IEEE-related venues, including work on satellite imagery and deepfake detection.

How DeepTrust is being developed

Anand describes DeepTrust as a consumer-facing, multimodal and multilingual platform. Alongside the detection system, he has developed AITruthCheck.app, an installation-free tool intended to make media verification more accessible to everyday users, including students and older people. His site says DeepTrust is also being tested through school pilots.

The project has moved beyond research papers into student entrepreneurship competitions. Anand's LinkedIn profile says DeepTrust was named a Top 100 global finalist in the 2026 Blue Ocean Entrepreneurship Competition and a Top 5 global finalist in the 2026 Conrad Challenge.

From high school junior to recognised AI researcher

When Anand started DeepTrust in August 2024, he was 16. By 2025 and 2026, his work had expanded into peer-reviewed research and international presentations. His research profile lists an IEEE MIT Undergraduate Research and Technology Conference project on detecting GAN-generated satellite imagery, as well as work on domain shift and quad-stream deepfake detection.

His portfolio describes the progression as a move from research into deployment: DeepTrust began with research into deepfake detection, developed into a patent-pending platform and public tool, and is now being tested through educational pilots.

For Anand, the project therefore represents more than a school competition entry. It began when he was 16, after experiencing the problem he was trying to solve, and has since grown into a combination of AI research, software development and efforts to make synthetic-media detection usable outside specialist cybersecurity environments.
