13-year-old with reported IQ of 168 Scored 1,590/1,600 in SAT at age 10, graduated high school at 11; now set to begin NYU master’s in 2027

Joe Petraro-Hyppolite, a 13-year-old from Long Island, New York, is set to begin a master’s programme at New York University in 2027, following an unusually accelerated academic journey.

He reportedly scored 1,590 out of 1,600 on the SAT when he was 10 years old and earned his high school diploma at the age of 11. He is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree and is expected to graduate in May 2027.

Petraro-Hyppolite’s planned master’s programme will focus on sports management, while he has also expressed interest in fields including kinesiology and biology.

Scored 1,590 On SAT At Age 10

Petraro-Hyppolite achieved several academic milestones years earlier than most students. His reported SAT score of 1,590 was just 10 points below the test’s maximum score of 1,600.

He later attended Louisiana State University and continued his undergraduate studies alongside students who were considerably older than him.

According to reports, Petraro-Hyppolite has an IQ of 168. He has nevertheless spoken about the effort required to keep up with his studies and retain new information.

“It’s not like I was shot out the womb knowing everything I know. I have to learn it once or twice. Then I’ll know,” he said.

Sports Management Among His Academic Interests

Petraro-Hyppolite told CBS News New York that he had been accepted into a master’s programme at New York University and planned to begin in 2027.

His postgraduate studies are expected to focus on sports management. Kinesiology and biology are also among the subjects that interest him.

He is expected to complete his undergraduate degree in May 2027 before moving on to postgraduate education at NYU.

Mother Recalls His Academic Journey

His mother, Anne Petraro-Hyppolite, said her son’s academic progress was particularly significant because he had previously been placed in special education classes after being diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder associated with motor and vocal tics.

Speaking about his achievements, she said, “It's just surreal. When he graduated high school so young, it was surreal, but this is ... everything he does is surreal. He just loves to learn. He is like a sponge.”

Volunteers At Nursing Home

Alongside his academic pursuits, Petraro-Hyppolite volunteers at a nursing home in the Five Towns area of Long Island, where he helps residents.

His interests also extend beyond academics. While he plans to pursue sports management at the postgraduate level, he has said he hopes to become a palaeontologist in the future.

Balancing Education And Future Goals

Petraro-Hyppolite’s accelerated education has allowed him to study university-level subjects at an unusually young age. His interests span sports, science and healthcare, while he continues to participate in community activities.

For now, his focus remains on completing his undergraduate degree in May 2027 and preparing for his planned master’s programme at NYU.
