10 pair of cowgirl boots, bikes and Jeeps: 5-year-old girl places order worth Rs 2.47 lakh from Amazon

A five-year-old girl Lila from Massachusetts, US, ordered toys worth $3000 from her mother's account. Jessica Nunes gave Lila her phone to calm her down in the car while they were driving home. But she underestimated her daughter's ability to browse for her favourite items on Amazon and place an order.

"I go on my Amazon order history to find that I, or somebody, had ordered 10 motorcycles, a Jeep and 10 pairs of cowgirl boots women's size seven," Nunes told NBC 10 News.

"The bikes and the Jeep came out to about $3,180. The boots alone were about $600," she said. The young girl clicked on "Buy Now" on the Amazon app to select her toys and boots, her mother said.


When Lila was asked that why did she order not one, but 10 motorcycles on Amazon, she told NBC 10 News "Because I wanted one.”

Luckily, Jessica Nunes was able to cancel half of the motorcycle orders and the cowgirl boots. The remaining five motorcycles and two-seater children's Jeep are likely to have been delivered to the child already.

"I did tell her that maybe if she you know, acts right, she behaves and she does chores around the house that we can get her a bike that's more geared towards her age range," she said. "A little slower, maybe."

In a similar incident,a six-year-old girl from Quebec, Canada ordered 8 plush toys, 480 fake nails, 270 keychains, six backpacks, and more worth $2,109.54. Mélissa Moffette said she believed all of the Amazon emails she received about recent purchases were spam, so she thought nothing of it.

"During the day, I was freaking out; at the beginning, I was thinking my account was … hacked," said the mother, who lives in Terrebonne, a suburb north of Montreal after seeing a truck arrive with 35 packages.

She said her daughter Mya was making the purchases on family tablet right under her nose. The Amazon account was linked to said her daughter, Mya, was making the purchases on a family tablet, which was linked to Moffette's Apple account. Mya was searching for items with voice commands and clicking on the "Buy Now"button. When her mother went to check on what she was doing, she would switch the tabs to hide her tracks.
