Broader Action Across Pune
In addition to the Koregaon Park demolitions, the PMC carried out similar actions in Vimannagar on the same day. On Tuesday, the focus was on two rooftop establishments in Kharadi. The crackdown is part of a wider campaign targeting unauthorized structures in various parts of Pune, including Kharadi, Mundhwa, Kalyaninagar, Vimannagar, and Koregaon Park. These areas have a high concentration of hotels, restaurants, pubs, and rooftop establishments.
Violations in Kalyaninagar
The PMC also acted against several hotels and restaurants in Kalyaninagar for not adhering to front and side margin regulations. The ongoing drive aims to enforce building codes and ensure that establishments operate within legal boundaries.
Background of the Drive
This intensified enforcement follows a tragic incident where a 17-year-old, after consuming alcohol, drove a Porsche and caused a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two young techies. The incident prompted PMC Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale to initiate a review of bars and restaurants with unauthorized structures.
Sealing of Pubs by Excise Department
On Tuesday, the state excise department sealed Cosie and Blak, two restaurants-cum-pubs in Mundhwa and Koregaon Park, for serving alcohol to the minor involved in the fatal accident. This action was ordered by the district collector in response to alleged legal violations.
