Mumbai Police to sensitise people regarding mandatory seat-belt rule coming into force today

​Mumbai's traffic police are setting out today to sensitise errant four-wheeler drivers and co-passengers as the rule to strap on seat belts comes into force.

The city of Mumbai is set to crack down on seat belt usage in the city. Starting November 1, the city is enforcing seatbelts for all passengers in cars.

Mumbai's traffic police are setting out today to sensitise errant four-wheeler drivers and co-passengers as the rule to strap on seat belts comes into force.

The rule is pursuant to a notification from local police making it mandatory for the driver and co-passengers to wear seat belts.


"While taking action against motorists and co-passengers, our focus will be to sensitise the drivers and co-passengers found not wearing seat belts," a policeman told PTI.

As per provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, whosoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers not wearing seat belts shall be punished.
