Election Commission Directive
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has mandated that both the constituencies where voting will occur and the adjacent constituencies must observe these dry days. This measure aims to maintain public order during the polling process. "All wine shops and bars will be closed on polling day to maintain public order," stated the ECI directive.
Additional Dry Days
Mumbai will also observe a dry day on June 4, coinciding with the counting of votes, which will continue until the results are announced. Similarly, dry days are scheduled in Haryana’s Gurugram and the Delhi NCR region from 6:00 pm on May 23 to 6:00 pm on May 25. In Kolkata, dry days will be enforced from 6:00 pm on May 18 until the conclusion of polling on May 20.

On May 20, voters from 49 constituencies across six states and two Union Territories will cast their votes in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The states participating in this phase include Maharashtra, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The election will determine the fate of 695 candidates, including several prominent ministers and MPs.
