Bridges department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has floated a tender worth Rs 238 crore for the construction of a bridge to connect the Western Express Highway in Bandra (E) with Fishermen Colony on Senapati Bapat Marg in Mahim.

It is another endeavour by the civic body to decongest the Western Express Highway ((WEH), which connects the entire western suburban areas in Mumbai till Mira Road. Once known for offering relief from massive traffic, the infamous WEH stays jam-packed almost the entire time these days. Commuters regularly take to social media to express their frustration about the traffic situation on this highway.

As per the report in TOI, the project timeline as of now is two years. Officials are not yet clear on when the work could begin as they would need time to get permission from the authorities. Moreover, they also need to take compulsory approval from the mangrove cells, as the bridge would be built over Mithi creek.
