Badlapur Protests: Thane English medium school suspends sweeper for sexually abusing two KG girls, 10 trains diverted

The protest against the alleged sexual abuse of two girls at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra's Thane district, escalated into violence on Tuesday. Protesters vandalized the school and engaged in stone-pelting at the local railway station during a rail blockade, according to the police. At the railway station, the protest disrupted train services, causing inconvenience to many commuters. Despite efforts by the police and authorities to negotiate, the protest continued, with some demonstrators throwing stones. The situation was eventually brought under control, and Commissioner of Government Railway Police (GRP) Ravindra Shisve arrived at the station to help disperse the crowd. A cleaning staff member sexually abused two KG class girls, aged three and four years, at an English medium school in Maharashtra's Thane.

The management of a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has suspended its principal and two staff members in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of two young girls. This action comes in response to protests by parents, who blocked the Badlapur railway station Tuesday demanding stringent action against the accused.

Badlapur: Train Services Affected

Parents and local residents gathered at Badlapur railway station at around 8 am, creating a blockade to highlight their demands to the administration. The protest disrupted the movement of trains on both the Up and Down routes.

Sweeper Sexually Abused 4-year-old girl

According to the complaint, the girls informed their parents that the attendant had touched them inappropriately, leading to a case filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police subsequently arrested the attendant.

In response to the incident, the school management announced late Monday evening that the principal, a class teacher, and a female attendant had been suspended for their responsibility in the incident. The management also issued an apology and stated that they have blacklisted the housekeeping firm responsible.

"Vigilance on the school premises will be increased in the wake of the incident," stated the school authorities.

The Badlapur police transferred the police station in-charge due to allegations of inaction when the parents initially approached them.

Badlapur: Huge Protest Erupts

This morning, many parents gathered outside the school demanding strict action against those responsible. Soon after, they, along with a significant number of local women, moved to the railway tracks, carrying banners and placards. They shouted slogans demanding accountability.

The police and authorities are facing challenges in managing the situation and are working to pacify the protesters.

Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila commented on the situation, stating,

"The agitation was going on at the railway station in connection with an incident in a Badlapur school."

Several organizations have called for a bandh in Badlapur to protest against the incident. Local MLA Kisan Kathore has taken up the cause with the authorities, insisting on strong action against both the accused and the police personnel who failed to act promptly.
