"I had discussed it with Devendra Fadnavisji when he was chief minister (2014-2019) and he had liked the idea of hoisting India's national flag at the world's tallest flagpole on the premises of Haji Ali Dargah. On Wednesday, I reminded him of the Dargah's plan for the tallest flagpole and he approved it," said Haji Ali Dargah trustee Sohail Khandwani.
Mumbai iconic holy shrine, Haji Ali Dargah, is planning to install the world's tallest flagpole for hoisting the national flag on it. According to a ToI report, the Dargah committee plans to invite PM Narendra Modi to unveil the flagpole when completed. The 550-years-old Dargah is currently undergoing renovation.

"The work on it will start soon," ToI quoted Haji Ali Dargah trustee Sohail Khandwani as saying. Currently a flagpole in Cairo (Egypt) at the height of 201.952 metres, is the tallest in the world.

Located on an islet off the coast and accessed by a paved pathway, Haji Ali is among the holiest shrines and also a popular tourist sites in the city.

In August, with an aim to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of Indian citizens, the central government had also kicked off the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to hoist the Tiranga at home to mark the 75th anniversary of India's Independence.
