'Your story isn't over': Stanley Richards named head of NYC Corrections under Mamdani administration

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Stanley Richards, a former inmate, will be New York City's next Commissioner of the Department of Correction, at a press conference on Saturday (January 31). Richards, who served time at New York's infamous Riker's Island prison for robbery in the 1980s, has worked as a counsellor assisting inmates transitioning to life after incarceration, Spectrum News reported. Richards also headed up rehabilitation programs at Riker's, local media reported. Richards pledged to make NYC's prisons safer for both staff and inmates.
