What Biden and the G7 said about Israel's 'right to respond' after Iran attack

The United States is urging Israel to respond carefully to Iran's recent missile launch, which involved approximately 200 ballistic missiles on Tuesday night. US President Joe Biden and G7 leaders emphasized the importance of a measured reaction, with Biden stating, "All seven of us agree that they have a right to respond, but they should respond in proportion."

The US has advised Israel against attacking Iran's nuclear sites, warning that such actions could lead to increased regional instability. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has discussed this stance with officials from France, Britain, Germany, and Italy, expressing concerns about potential further escalation in the Middle East.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has advocated for a strong strike on Iran's nuclear facilities to significantly weaken the regime. However, the US prefers to avoid a large-scale regional conflict. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller reiterated, "Israel has a right to respond... but we don't want to see any action that would lead to a full-blown regional war."


Recently, Israel conducted an airstrike on a Hezbollah location in Beirut, resulting in six deaths, according to Lebanese sources reported by AFP. Eight Israeli soldiers have died in the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for forcing Israeli soldiers to withdraw and attacking an Israeli unit with explosives, as well as destroying three Merkava tanks with rockets.

Although President Biden mentioned ongoing discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's team, the White House has not yet confirmed direct communication between the two leaders on this matter.
