Wasim Akram gets security after road rage incident
KARACHI: Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram, who survived a scary road rage incident, has been provided special security while commuting between his home and the national stadium where he is presently supervising a fast bowlers camp.

Atleast four fully armed personal of the paramilitary rangers have been escorting the former Pakistan captain's car while security has also been beefed up at the stadium when the camp is held in the aftermath of the road rage incident earlier this week.

"After the incident it was felt that because he is such a high profile figure he should be given security while coming and going from the stadium and conducting the camp," a PCB official said.

Although the incident occurred some three days back when an unidentified man fired at Wasim's car the former fast bowler has not skipped a single day of the camp.

"My wife Shaneria and family have been a big encouragement and strength for me. They were worried after the incident but once they saw I was okay they were relieved. My wife told me that it is my country, my city and I should carry on with my work regardless of the incident," Wasim told reporters.

"My motto in life has always been "Jo Daqr Gaya Who Mar Gaya so I am carrying on with my daily routine and I am satisfied with the way the police is investigating the case," he said.

The police have arrested one man in connection with the incident whose name is said to be Aamir and he is a security guard in a private company.

A senior police official said they had got leads and were searching for his companions who were in the car when the incident happened with Wasim's car.

The official said the arrested man had initially hidden the vehicle involved in the accident but it was later found by the police.

"It appears as if the main culprit has gone into hiding but he will be arrested soon," he said.

Wasim, 49, also disclosed that he had received a string of support calls and messages from fellow cricketers including many from India.

" Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Andrew Flintoff, Imran Khan and others called me up and many have sent me messages of support. It has just helped me get over the scary incident and continue with my work of working with the young fast bowlers," Wasim added.
