US report takes note of Russia, India, China huddle at SCO Tianjin meet

New Delhi: A report to the US Congress of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission - without explicitly mentioning Russia, India, China (RIC) - has pointed out that the SCO summit hosted by China in August showcased the willingness of Beijing, Moscow and New Delhi to compromise and present a unified front.

"On August 31, 2025, Xi hosted more than 20 world leaders, including Russian President Putin and Indian Prime Minister Modi, at the SCO summit in Tianjin, using the occasion to outline his vision of transforming the bloc into a platform to bypass Western economic and technological institutions... Xi positioned himself as a champion of multilateralism and sovereign equality, highlighting technology, economic cooperation and development as SCO's new priorities... showcased China's, Russia's and India's increased willingness to compromise and present a unified front," the report claimed.

ET had earlier reported how the perception of the RIC huddle at Tianjin SCO summit may have played a big role in US President Donald Trump softening his stand and telephoning Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the eve of his 75th birthday.


The report said, "The three countries signed on to a declaration condemning the US and Israeli bombing of Iran and the 'actions that have led to a catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip', marking the first time India criticised US support for Israel."
