Trump signals Iran deal near, more talks likely this weekend; floats Islamabad visit plan

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that there will likely be more talks this weekend on a potential Iran deal and added that he could travel to Islamabad once an agreement is reached, though no final decision has been made.

Speaking to Reuters, Trump said the United States would “enter Iran at a leisurely pace” to recover enriched uranium and bring it back to the US, outlining elements of a possible framework being discussed with Tehran. He said Washington is working with Iran to retrieve its enriched uranium stockpile and transport it to the United States.

Trump also said that a deal to end the war involving Iran, which was launched by the United States and Israel in late February, is “mostly complete,” according to Bloomberg News.

Trump said, as per Reuters that no money would be exchanged as part of any potential deal with Iran, while noting that the US is working to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz. He added that a blockade of the strategic waterway would remain in place until a deal is finalised.

“There will probably be more talks this weekend about an Iran deal,” Trump said, indicating continued negotiations despite regional tensions.

On potential travel plans, Trump said he might visit Islamabad after a deal is reached but has not made a determination. The remarks come amid ongoing discussions between Washington and Tehran over nuclear-related issues and regional security arrangements.
