US Election 2024: Poll reveals Kamala Harris holds 38-point lead among Asian American voters over Donald Trump

Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump by 38 points among Asian American voters in a recent poll. The NORC poll at the University of Chicago released on Tuesday is the first survey since Joe Biden exited the presidential race. Vice President Harris became the Democratic Party's nominee.

The poll shows Harris, 59, ahead of Trump, 78, by 38 percentage points among Asian American voters. This lead is an increase from Biden's previous 15-point lead in spring.

According to the poll, 66% of Asian American voters support Harris, while 28% back Trump. Six percent are either undecided or plan to vote for another candidate.


In the 2024 Asian American Voter Survey (AAVS) conducted earlier this year, 46% supported Biden, 31% backed Trump, and 23% were undecided or preferred another candidate.

In the 2020 AAVS, 54% were for Biden, 30% for Trump, and 16% were undecided or supported someone else.

Harris' favorability among Asian American voters has risen by 18 points. Currently, 62% have a favorable opinion of her, compared to 44% in the 2024 AAVS.

For Trump, 28% of Asian American voters view him favorably, while 70% hold an unfavorable opinion. In the 2024 AAVS, 34% had a favorable view, and 62% did not.

The poll also found that Harris' running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is more popular than the Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance. Fifty-six percent of Asian American voters have a favorable view of Walz, with 18% unfavorable and 26% undecided.

In contrast, 21% view Vance favorably, 58% unfavorably, and 22% are undecided.

Thirty-eight percent of Asian American voters stated Harris' identity as a woman is "extremely" or "very" important, while 27% said the same about her Asian Indian or South Asian heritage.

The poll indicates that Asian American voters are more likely to be contacted by the Democratic Party than the Republican Party.

The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 5.
