US consulate vicinity in Dubai witnesses fire after drone strike
A drone struck the parking area near the US Consulate in Dubai on Tuesday, triggering a fire and plumes of black smoke, authorities said, as the United Arab Emirates reported intercepting a fresh wave of missiles and drones amid the escalating regional conflict.

Dubai’s government media office said emergency teams responded immediately after the strike and extinguished what it described as a limited blaze in the vicinity of the consulate. No injuries were reported.

A US official and Dubai authorities confirmed that the drone hit the consulate’s parking lot. Videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke rising near the diplomatic compound, though officials urged the public to rely on verified information.

Earlier in the day, authorities had acknowledged that loud sounds heard in several parts of the city were linked to air defence interception operations. Officials said relevant teams were closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure public safety.

The incident comes against the backdrop of heightened hostilities involving Iran and its regional adversaries, with the UAE reporting sustained missile and drone activity targeting its territory.

UAE reiterates neutrality, right to self-defence

In a statement, the UAE’s foreign ministry said the country “is not a party to this war and has not permitted the use of its territory, territorial waters, or airspace for any attack against Iran,” reaffirming its long-standing policy of de-escalation and adherence to the UN Charter.

The ministry added that the UAE “retains its legitimate right to self-defense, as recognized under international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” while stressing the importance of relying on official and credible sources to avoid the spread of inaccurate or misleading reports.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems intercepted 11 ballistic missiles and 123 drones on Tuesday. One missile landed within the country’s territory but caused no casualties, it added.

Since the start of what the ministry described as “blatant Iranian aggression,” a total of 186 ballistic missiles have been detected as launched toward the UAE. Of these, 172 were destroyed, 13 fell into the sea, and one landed on land.

The ministry also reported detecting 812 Iranian drones, of which 755 were intercepted and 57 fell within the country. In addition, eight cruise missiles were detected and destroyed.

War rhetoric intensifies

The strike near the US diplomatic mission comes as rhetoric from Washington has sharpened. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Iran of “hiding behind these missiles and hiding behind these drones,” suggesting Tehran sought to shield its nuclear ambitions through proxy and asymmetric tactics.

Rubio said there was “no way in the world that this terroristic regime was going to get nuclear weapons,” adding that such an outcome would not occur “under Donald Trump’s watch.”

The drone strike near the United States Consulate General Dubai marks one of the most visible spillovers of the wider confrontation into a key Gulf commercial hub, even as UAE authorities insist they remain outside the conflict and focused on protecting their territory and residents.
