Speaking at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, Putin also appreciated the efforts of India and Beijing efforts to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
"In this regard, we highly appreciate the efforts and proposals from China and India aimed at facilitating the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis," Putin said.
"I would also note that the understandings reached at the recent Russia–U.S. meeting in Alaska, I hope, also contribute toward this goal," he added.
Putin further stated that the root cause of the crisis must be addressed and security balance must be established in Ukraine, adding that attempts by the West to drag Ukraine into NATO are one of the causes of the crisis in the country.
He also reiterated that the crisis in Ukraine did not arise as result of 'invasion,' but as a result of a coup d'état in Kyiv, supported by Ukraine's western allies.
