Trump threatens to ‘completely obliterate’ Iran’s power plants, oil wells and Kharg Island if deal not reached

President Trump has raised the stakes in his latest warning to Iran, asserting that a refusal to reach a diplomatic agreement will result in the obliteration of key energy assets, including Kharg Island and its oil wells. This announcement comes a...

‘Will BLOW UP Kharg, oil wells…’: Trump's FINAL ultimatum to Iran over Strait of Hormuz tensions
US President Trump on Monday issued a stark warning to Tehran, and said that US “will completely obliterate all of Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells and kharg island if deal not reached” as part of a hard-line message in the escalating conflict between Washington and Iran.

In a forceful written statement on Truth Social, Trump framed the threat as both a negotiating tactic and a punitive response to years of hostility.

"The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched.” This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year “Reign of Terror.” Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP," he wrote.

He described ongoing discussions with what he called “a new, and more reasonable, regime” in Iran and said “great progress has been made,” but made clear that the window for a diplomatic settlement was closing. The president linked any failure to secure a deal with reopening the Strait of Hormuz -- a vital artery for global oil shipments -- and warned that, should talks collapse, the United States would move to destroy Iran’s power grid, oil production facilities and the strategic Kharg Island energy hub.

The warning echoes Trump’s recent comments about potentially seizing Iran’s oil resources and the export terminal on Kharg Island, a key node through which most of the country’s crude flows to global markets. Earlier this week, he told interviewers that the US could “take the oil in iran” and that capturing Kharg Island was among the military options under consideration -- remarks that have fueled anxiety in energy markets and drawn sharp reactions from Tehran.

The president’s latest ultimatum comes against the backdrop of intensified hostilities across the Middle East. US and allied forces have already carried out strikes on military targets on Kharg Island in recent weeks, destroying installations there while, until now, sparing oil infrastructure. Trump has repeatedly signaled that further action against Iran’s energy sector -- including its generating plants and export facilities -- remains on the table if Tehran does not agree to terms by an informal deadline in early April.
