Trump seeks Iran deal before April 6 deadline, warns of strikes on energy sites
US President Donald Trump on Monday said he wants a deal with Iran before an April 6 deadline, warning that the country’s energy infrastructure could be targeted if it does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said “great progress” had been made in talks but added that if a deal is not reached “shortly” and the Strait is not opened, the US could strike Iran’s power plants, oil wells and key export facilities. He had last week paused attacks on Iran’s energy sites for 10 days, a window that ends April 6.

The warning comes as Iran rejected US peace proposals, calling them “unrealistic, illogical and excessive”, and continued missile strikes on Israel. The conflict, which began on February 28, has since spread across the region, drawing in groups from Yemen and Lebanon.

Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly a fifth of global oil and LNG supplies pass, raising concerns over energy flows and shipping disruptions.

The US has also moved to reinforce its presence in the region, with thousands of troops from the 82nd Airborne Division arriving, even as diplomatic efforts continue through intermediaries.

Oil markets remain on edge, with prices on track for a sharp monthly rise, as fears of further escalation grow and prospects of a near-term resolution remain uncertain.
