Trump says US to receive 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela after meeting Delcy Rodríguez
Speaking about the interaction, Trump said Rodríguez asked whether the US could take the oil shipment and he agreed, adding that the consignment, valued at around $4.2 billion at current prices, was already on its way to the United States.
In early January 2026, US forces carried out an operation in Venezuela in which President Nicolás Maduro was captured, and the country’s Vice-President, Delcy Rodríguez, was subsequently sworn in as interim president by Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice and endorsed by the armed forces.
Following these developments, President Donald Trump announced that interim Venezuelan authorities had agreed to turn over 30 million to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, to be sold at market value and with the proceeds controlled by the US.
Interim authorities in Venezuela will turn over “sanctioned oil” Trump said on Truth Social.
The US will use the proceeds “to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!” he wrote.
