Trump says Greenland critical to global security after talks with NATO chief Mark Rutte
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said Greenland’s strategic importance was a key focus of the discussion and claimed there was broad agreement on its role in global security.
Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, holds strategic significance due to its location in the Arctic and its role in transatlantic defence infrastructure. The island hosts the US-operated Pituffik Space Base, which is part of America’s missile warning and space surveillance network.
Trump had earlier told reporters the United States would talk about acquiring Greenland at this week's World Economic Forum because Denmark cannot protect the territory.
Trump also reiterated his view that US military strength is central to maintaining global peace. No further details were disclosed regarding the timing or participants of the proposed Davos meeting.
