Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Saturday slammed US President Donald Trump for saying North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies had shied away from the front line in Afghanistan.

"I fully understand Danish veterans have said no words can describe how much this hurts," she said on Facebook.

"It is unacceptable that the US president questions the commitment of allied soldiers in Afghanistan." In an interview with Fox News ON Thursday, Trump said NATO will "say they sent some troops to Afghanistan."

"And they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines," he added, triggering outrage.
