Trump proposes 'Ocean of the Americas' as new name for Atlantic or Pacific

US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean as “Trump Ocean” or “Ocean of the Americas,” signalling that his campaign to change geographical names could extend to two of the world's largest bodies of water.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday (October 10), ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, Trump said he wanted an ocean and a major river renamed before the end of his presidency.

“We need a river. We need an ocean,” Trump told supporters, according to The Washington Post.

“We call it ‘Trump Ocean’ or ‘Ocean of the Americas,’ something like that,” he added, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

The remarks follow a series of geographical renaming decisions and proposals by the Trump administration, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario to Lake America.

“Before I get out, I think we should have an ocean. And we need a great river,” Trump said, according to the newspaper.
