Trump attempting to fire Lisa Cook after Supreme Court ruling: Report

US President Donald Trump is attempting to fire ‌Federal ⁠Reserve ⁠Governor Lisa Cook again after the US Supreme Court in June refused to let the president ⁠fire her, ‌ABC News reported on ⁠Friday, citing sources.

The White House ​told Cook in ​a letter this week that the president was "considering" ‌removing her from her role ​and demanded ​she ⁠respond within three weeks, according to the report.

The administration has accused Cook of "gross negligence" based on unproven allegations that she had engaged in mortgage fraud before taking office, an allegation which has been denied by Cook, as she called them a pretext ‌to remove her for monetary policy differences.

In June, the Supreme Court had refused Trump ​to allow ⁠the firing Cook, standing firm to preserve the central bank's cherished independence against the Republican president's unprecedented challenge. The court, ​in a 5-4 ruling, blocked the president from removing Cook for now, providing a safeguard for the Fed specifically.
