Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot on Wednesday at an event at Utah Valley University, NBC News reported, citing a university spokesperson.

A spokesperson told NBC News that Kirk was giving a presentation when shots were fired and "to the best of our knowledge he was hit and taken with his security team away from the premises."

Fox News reported that Kirk was hospitalized.


"We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University," FBI Director Kash Patel said on X. "Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected." He said FBI agents will be on the scene quickly.

Trump, Turning Point USA issue statement
In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump said, "We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!"

The conservative youth organization called Turning Point USA, which was co-founded by Kirk, also issued a statement confirming that he was shot at during an event.
