If a user wants to update a tweet, Twitter can only send a message that says "please edit this tweet," but the third party can decide whether or not to do so.

There may be ways to mitigate this, such as permitting edits only after a certain amount of time has passed since the post was made, but it is undoubtedly a factor for the company to consider.
