Why did Taylor Swift donate $50,000 to an injured mother?
Taunton, a Connecticut mother of three, was driving on Interstate 95 in Hopkinton, Rhode Island, on July 18 when she saw a car hydroplane off the road during a torrential rainstorm. She stopped to help the teenagers inside the crashed vehicle, according to The Boston Globe. While Taunton was trying to help them, another vehicle hydroplaned and headed towards the group.ALSO READ: Royal Caribbean cruise ship woman missing for nearly a day found alive after 20 hours in sea off Greece
She pushed one of the teenagers out of the vehicle's path but was struck herself, suffering serious injuries that required multiple surgeries and an extended hospital stay. To help the injured woman, a fundraiser was organised and also to support her husband and their three children during her recovery. Swift donated $50,000 to the campaign in late August. The singer also left a message for the family: “Wishing you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family!” She signed it, “Taylor.”
Taunton was taken aback by the contribution. In an interview with The Boston Globe, she said: “I couldn’t imagine it,” adding, “I was like, ‘There’s no way.’ … But who else would do that?”
