5.9-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Japan: Reports
An earthquake struck Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture on Tuesday, with preliminary estimates placing the magnitude between 5.9 and 6.2, according to Japanese broadcasters and seismic agencies.

Public broadcaster NHK reported that the quake registered an intensity of lower 5+ on Japan’s seven-point seismic scale in parts of Amami in Kagoshima Prefecture. Japan’s National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) later estimated the quake’s preliminary magnitude at 6.2.

No tsunami warning has been issued following the earthquake, NHK reported.
