Stealth jet maker the driving force behind China's tireless mask-making machine

China, which is facing one of its worst health crises in decades, is not leaving any stone unturned to fight the coronavirus epidemic. The country, where over 81,000 have now been infected, is now taking help from a leading defence company to produce face masks.

As per Global Times, the state owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is using cutting-edge tech to help make masks.

AVIC, the maker of the J20 stealth fighter jet, is applying technologies of aircraft manufacturing to face mask production, Global Times tweeted. "Each mask-making machine built by AVIC can produce 100 masks per minute and work 24 hrs without a halt," it said.


However, as of now, there is no report about shortage of masks in the country.

In China over 3,158 have died from coronavirus even as the country has locked down several cities and imposed travel restrictions to contain the epidemic.

According to latest data, the country has made significant progress in curbing domestic infections. New cases in Wuhan fell to a new low on Wednesday with just 13 infections reported, while only one other non-imported case was recorded elsewhere in the country.

Wuhan and its surrounding province, Hubei, have been under a lockdown since late January. It is part of an unprecedented effort that has prevented 56 million people from venturing to other parts of China.

But with Hubei reporting zero cases outside Wuhan for several days in a row, provincial authorities announced on Tuesday that they would allow healthy people in low-risk areas to travel within the province.

The global death toll from the new coronavirus has passed 4,000 and the outbreak has spread to over 100 countries.
