'Spend, Save, invest...': IMF Chief big message to China, US, Europe amid global uncertainty
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said global economic imbalances widened to 0.7% of GDP in 2025, with China and the United States being the biggest contributors.Speaking at a press briefing during the IMF's 2026 Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Georgieva urged China to shift its growth model from exports toward domestic consumption, while calling on the US to reduce its debt and budget deficit. She also said European economies need to improve competitiveness and boost investment. "China needs to spend more. US has to save more. And Europe has to invest more," Georgieva concluded.
