Showing solidarity with Paris attack victims UAE lights up its landmarks in French tricolor

DUBAI: Showing solidarity with the victims of Paris attacks, the UAE lit up its famous landmarks, including the world's tallest skyscraper Burj Khalifa, in the colours of the French national flag.

Burj Khalifa, the 828-metre building with more than 160 stories, was draped in blue, red and white colours yesterday.

"It marks our heartfelt tribute to France and its people in this moment of grief and the UAE's deepest condolences to the families of the victims," Emaar Properties, the developer of the project said in a statement.

Photographs of the iconic tower went viral on social media with people sharing it with their friends and families.

Je Suis Paris was the predominant message shared by those sharing the picture.

Reaffirming the UAE's solidarity with France, the country's other landmarks including Capital Gate Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, Hazaa bin Zayed Stadium, Burj Mohammed bin Rashid and Emirates Palace also illuminated in red, white and blue colors of France's national flag.

The Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for the Friday's attacks on a stadium, a concert hall and Paris cafes that left 129 people dead and over 350 wounded, 99 of them seriously.
