Shooting in Vienna supermarket, gunman shot down

The attack took place at an outlet of the BILLA supermarket chain near Vienna's Schonbrunn Palace at about 7 pm local time.

VIENNA: A gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Austria's Vienna. This prompted an emergency reaction from commando unit of the local police force, who shot the gunman down. Two policemen have been injured in the operation. There is no clarity yet on whether this was a terror attack, and some parts of the city have been cordoned off.

The attack took place at an outlet of the BILLA supermarket chain near Vienna's Schonbrunn Palace at about 7 pm local time.

The area was cordoned off and choppers were pressed into service.

There is no confirmation in the condition of the two policeman injured in the operation.
