Labour Party leader Keir Starmer's tax payments for the 2022-23 financial year have been disclosed by the party, revealing that he paid just under £100,000 in total taxes. According to a summary released by the Labour Party, Keir contributed £44,308 towards income tax, with an additional £52,688 paid in capital gains tax following the sale of a field co-owned by his father's estate in December 2022.

Previously, Sir Keir had disclosed tax payments amounting to £118,580 over the preceding two financial years, derived from total earnings of £359,720. This included earnings from his role as an MP and additional income from legal services prior to his tenure as Labour leader.

Keir Starmer's income breakdown

The latest tax summary, prepared by Sir Keir's chartered accountants and reported to HM Revenue & Customs, outlines that he earned £79,098 as an MP, supplemented by £49,193 in salary for his position as Leader of the Opposition, resulting in total income exceeding £128,000.

The disclosure comes amidst a broader trend of political leaders in the UK revealing their tax returns voluntarily.
