Uzbeks voted for cross section of political parties in Sunday’s parliamentary polls strengthening reform agenda of the current President.

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan announced the preliminary results of the election.

According to it Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan won 43 seats (34%), National Revival Party – 35 seats (27%), ‘Adolat’ (Justice) Social Democratic Party – 21 seats (16%), People’s Democratic Party – 18 seats (14%), Ecological Party – 11 seats (9%).


According to the Electoral Code, a candidate who gains more than 50% of votes is considered elected. Central Election Commission informed that the deputies were not elected in 22 constituencies of country since none of the candidates could won enough votes in these territorial units.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who took charge of Central Asia''s most populous state in 2016 after the death of predecessor and former patron Islam Karimov, described Sunday''s vote as "historic."

Some 20 million of Uzbekistan's 33 million inhabitants were eligible to select the new 150-member parliament from five competing parties, who have all thrown their weight behind President Mirziyoyev.
