Generally, most grandmothers are known for driving carefully and cautiously on the roads, this old-age stereotype never really applied to Queen Elizabeth. In an exclusive interview to The Sunday Times, Queen Elizabeth's aide Samantha Cohen recalled working for the longtime monarch for 18 years.

The queen had a need for speed when it came to getting from point A to point B, the aide to the late monarch recalled, adding that though her former boss was "shy", her "playful" nature and bold personality was reflected in her driving habits.

Shedding light on late monarch's surprising driving habits, Samantha Cohen remembered Queen Elizabeth had a penchant for driving at high speeds, particularly around Balmoral Castle.

Cohen described the Queen as "gutsy" and shared that, "she used to drive her cars fast around Balmoral." This revelation offers an unexpected glimpse into the personal side of the Queen, known for her reserved public persona.

Queen Elizabeth, who drove on public roads until the age of 93, gave up her driving privileges following her husband Prince Philip's car crash in 2019. Even after this, she continued to drive her Land Rover on private roads near Buckingham Palace and Balmoral.

Reflecting on her time with the Queen, Cohen emphasized her family-oriented nature and humility. “It always struck me that in a world of celebrity, where we had all sorts of celebrities coming into the palace, the Queen was the antithesis of celebrity,” Cohen said.

The aide remembered how her children would sometimes run into Elizabeth on her horse.

"Some mornings, I'd be getting the cereal for breakfast, and the kids would go, 'Mum! The Queen just rode past on her horse.' Other times, they'd bump into her on their bicycles," she shared. "The Queen loved families having a nice time and hearing what everyone was doing."

On September 9, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
